Winter walks
It’s the start of 2016, and a lot of people have resolved to be healthier this year. We believe one of the greatest ways to get in shape, both physically and spiritually is through walking - and with a stunning landscape in Northern Ireland, we're well positioned for some of the best walks in the world.
Walk off those mince pies on one of County Down’s scenic trails. Walking is considered to be one of the best ways to stay healthy; it’s simple, inexpensive, and provides countless benefits for your body, such as reducing the risk of heart disease, heightening cognitive responses, and can boost the immune system. Get outside and ditch the gadgets for an hour and you’ll soon be making strides in your mental well-being as well since walking is proven therapy for stress.
Outdoor NI lists a number of themed walking expeditions in County Down that are an excellent way to keep fit while having fun. This month they are hosting a series of Nordic Walking Days in Castlewellan Forest Park.
Walk Northern Ireland is also an excellent source for finding the perfect path for you. They list each area’s scenic trails, from the coastal grassland walk at Ballyquintin Farm, on the tip of the Ards Peninsula, to a natively famous dander on the Bloody Bridge River Walk.
